Maybe it has or maybe it hasn't, but if I made you a job offer, and you turned me down, I'm sure you would never get another offer.

Granted I will agree that if you are required to attend classes to be on UI, then you technically can't complain about not being able to work for a contractor under the table.

At the same time I can understand that if you are unemployed and can't find work then you will do anything to support your family.

I had a coworker who would moonlight between two companies because he was always the new guy at work and would be laid off constantly but usually worked 8-10 months a year. He was working with us at the time and it seemed like work was slowing down with jobs not coming in.

He came in one day and told the boss the other company called and had a 9 month job coming up and asked if he had work or was going to lay him off. Boss says i need you... He gets laid off 2 weeks later and missed a long contract. So it seems a little honesty from both side would be appreciated.

We all do, but he's been paying into it too. Not using it is like wrecking your car and not calling the insurance company. Now, he's certainly not being ethical here. If he was picking up a few days of work here and there, I get it. Extra cash, and you don't lose your unemployment over it without a steady gig. Why not just go over the table with the new EC? Oh, because he's a crook too. No WC, no payroll tax. This kid is being unethical, but let's call Mr. Businessman to task here too fellas.

His cash paying boss isn't bragging about braking the law. That's not to say its right. We all have done something wrong I once took more than one spoon for my frosty at Wendy's once, but I didn't brag about it damn I just did I'm such a scum.

So I'm making alot more money now than I was making when I was working full time. But I just got a letter from unemployment saying that I must attend this Work Force program to assist me in a new job hunt. This really is a pain because this thing is mandatory and I'm going to have to miss work in order to attend this thing. Has anyone ever participated in this program?
i normally look at something this over the top as the hard work
of a troll.

but, there are a couple things i do know... one, most folks really
don't like a thief. there are ample posts on this thread to that effect.

especially the one's who have to pay for it.
like the guys ex employer, who, yes, would know who they
laid off on 3-29-12, and might be interested in knowing
that he's bragging about stealing money from them every week
on a public forum.... and is dumb enough to post their name
on his profile:

ARC Electrical & Mechanical Contractors Corp.
26 Delavan Street
Brooklyn, NY 11231
(T) 718-222-8162
(F) 718-222-8165

similarly, any of his peer group... that might be Local 3.....
might say something to a business rep, and again, the
local maintains employment history for all members, forever.
they would know who got laid off from ARC three weeks ago....

if memory serves, Local 3 takes a dim view of this sort of
creative employment..... especially all the brothers riding
the book behind him....

IBEW Local 3

158-11 Harry Van Arsdale Jr Ave.
Flushing, NY, 11365-3095
Main Number: (718) 591-4000

but the most likely people who would do something about
this isn't necessarily one of the people who posted highly
incensed replies here... it's someone sitting here reading,
with house hanging in foreclosure, wondering where they
are going to be living two months from now, who can't
stand a thief.

now, he can even change his posts, and erase all his
posts, but he can't erase the posts that have been
quoted.

wonder how many phone calls will show up to that
contractor tomorrow, or emails to their human resources
department, with a link to this thread.....

agent mulder said it well.... "the truth is out there".
