Default AFCI and smart meter issues

I received a call from a local utility because they installed a smart meter module and a smart meter on a customers house and now the AFCI are tripping frequently. The utility then removed the module and left the smart meter, the AFCIs still trip but not near as frequently. The AFCI are GE and not sure of the age of the house. With the smart meter and module removed the are no problems. Anybody have any similar expierence with this situation?

P.S.I haven't been to the house yet the utility is checking with their and the smart grid engineers first.

Not surprising. A few years ago I did a service upgrade, and when the POCO showed up, they slapped in a smart meter. a few days later I get a call that this GFCI that was nippled out of the meter combo keeps tripping... I think, ok bad gfci. I replace it, same thing. The circuit is fine, the customer called the poco and had them change the meter back to a mechanical meter, that gfci hasnt tripped since.

Those smart meters send out RF, which messes with GFCI and AFCI circuits.

Interesting guess. Seen walkie-talkies do it, so why not Smart Meters?
