Default Hello from Portland, Oregon

Hi all, just jumped into the fray and am interested to see what goes on here. It is nice to have access to these forums that are by electricians for electricians instead of having to get info on the wider web. Thanks to those who moderate and make it possible!

I just journeyed out in June of this year (2018). I applied to both union and non-union apprenticeships (inside wireman) and spent 500 hrs non-union before getting accepted into the IBEW local 48 apprenticeship. They have a pretty kick a** training center and great instructors for the most part. Portland is a great city to go union because of the training and the amount of work available. Google has one of their largest data centers nearby and Intel has their mean R&D here, lot of high tech and other opportunities that lean union.

I am 53 and before becoming an electrician I had a residential remodel shop for 20 years. Before that I was in the ministry for awhile and got a degree in Theology.

I have 4 kids and two grandkids. They all live close by so I am lucky in that way.

Again, thanks for this opportunity!

Welcome @Wexcellent. I have you beat, I have 10 grandchildren. I have found that there is rarely a dull moment on ET. It will take you a little while to get used to some personalities.. more than a few with very dry wit. You will encounter a few who think they are never wrong. You do have the option of putting them on ignore. One thing is for sure, there are a lot of guys on ET who have a ton of experience... Iím constantly picking up new insights on all kinds of topics.
