Default Opinions from highly trained individuals needed

Hi! I have training in electronics with an Associates Degree. I don't use it much, so I might be kind of rusty. I'm here to get opinions from people who are more highly trained and more knowledgeable.

Being an Electronics Technician is quite different than being an electrician. You may get some blowback from the moderators about that.

But welcome, and ask away.

Default The trades overlap

More and more the field of electrical work and electronics are merging.

You could choose to avoid the electronic aspects of modern electrical systems and equipment, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have a background in basic electronics, which will enable you to learn and work on the advanced control and data systems (Scada, PLC, technical power requirements, etc.)
For a basic look at what's happening on the electronics side of the electrical industry, check out some of the subject matter in the publication EC&M (Electrical Construction and Maintenance) which Is easy to find on the web.

On a personal note, back in 2002 or so I worked at a major power plant rebuild and new plant project at Duke Energy's Moss Landing, Ca. power plant. I was an inside wireman "Take-In" electrician in Local 413, Santa Barbara County Ca. with a BA-BA arrangement to work out of the Castroville local.

There were eleven IBEW contractors on the job, each with its own area of expertise, with controls & instrumentation being large "slices of the pie".

I went to work for a San Francisco area C-10 that was a subcontractor to Foxboro, one of the biggest control outfits in the world. Having a background in electronics helped me a lot on that job, which was installing state of the art control & instrumentation systems & equipment.

As they say in the field, "Do It All".

I am not highly trained, but I am extremely handsome so I think my opinion should matter more than most.

In my opinion your opinion does not matter more, because I am no doubt more handsome. Therefore, my opinion matters more and thus I am right and you are wrong.

...and everyone knows it.

Don't feel bad, I have been telling people I am "certified" for years, turns out they said "certifiable" and apparently it's not the same

You're the guy who tried to tell us how science is correct and global warming is true by posting a Bill Nye (not a scientist) video, right?

Don't ever question my rugged good looks again.
