Default Ontario Code

J/man wireman, retired for 10 years but still carry licence.
I want to put a bedroom in my basement. I was told that it needs to be wired in #12 wire and a 20 breaker as well as tamper proof outlets.

I have searched for an Ontario codebook on line but could not find any information.
Thanks DJ

Now how can ESA make any money selling books if it was free online?

No you don't need 12 awg wire or a 20 amp breaker. you will need to use an arc fault breaker though.

For your situation, i suggest you buy a simplified residential code book. You can get them at chapters or home depot, it will have all the answers you need.

Why you gotta be like that? I say he’s legit.

Section 13 deals with residential wiring. 20 amp/#12 not required. 13-200 covers off the mandatory 200 amp service upgrade.

Well, now I'm embarrassed. I totally forgot about 13-200

Oh well, carry on

We were just talking about section 13 at work, don't forget a pull box every 100' is in that section as well.

Not to derail this thread, but I was thinking that we really don't talk much about Section 13 too often... so I did a search on Google and only came up with 336 results for Section 13; thus proving that most of us don't refer to Section 13 enough.
