Hi Mike. I've been searching around on the interwebs for information about becoming a "telecommunications electrician." I've applied to an apprenticeship program at my Local IBEW and despite their program being highly undefined (apparently it's still being developed), I'm still moving forward with an interview this coming Monday. I'm registered to take a fiber splicing certification course in a month or so, too. I feel excited and optimistic about my career change, but I'm frustrated at how little information the union here has for me. The general attitude on this forum seems to be very negative toward "tele-data" work, but you seem to be an exception to this. Basically I am hoping you could tell me about what you do specifically, if you were trained through the union, how long you've been doing in this type of work, what you are paid (benefits?), any information that might help me better understand what I am potentially signing up for. Thanks so much!

If i missed all the tests is there anything else I can do and from what I read it says i must have this Provide an original signed letter from the applicant’s current or former employer . The letter must verify the dates of employment and establish a minimum of two cumulative years of experience in the installation, maintenance or alteration of building wiring systems . The letter must include a description of the applicant’s duties and responsibilities and be signed by a Supervising Electrician with an active City license. The letter must include the Electrical Contractor’s license number.
OR if the applicant’s work experience is limited to a State, County, or local jurisdiction, which does NOT require licensing and/or registration of electrical contractors, or electrical wiring permits, provide a letter of verification from that jurisdiction along with a detailed, chronological history of the applicant’s work experience.
im not sure I do am i missing something?
