Does anyone have experience with the podium step ladders versus standard? I am going to buy a 12 foot step ladder and I was looking at the podium style as well. The big downside to me seems like the extra 10 pounds, otherwise is seems like a better option. How about the tripod? The design does not look stable to me although it might be fine.

One thing to keep in mind is that podium ladders have heights advertised differently from regular A-frame ladders. A traditional 8-foot step ladder has the same LEGAL standing height as a 6-foot platform ladder, but the platform might have a taller overall opened height because of possible extra height of the railing. On one job, we had two different Werner platforms, one with flat aluminum toprail and one with plastic toolholder top rail. The ladders with plastic toprails didn't quite fit under the ceiling, requiring that we carefully stood it up in the square, while the others were just shorter than the grid and could be dragged around while open. It's worth double checking if overhead clearance might be an issue.

I love 'em though, especially the slightly too tall ones.
