2008 Changes to 210-8(A):

Delete exception to (3).
Delete exception Nos. 1 and 2 to (5).

So, no change to the fridge, but the exemption for the sump disappears.

ALL receptacles in unfinished basements and garages will be required to have GFCI protection. Fridges, sumps, garage door openers, etc.

Kitchen fridge is still exempt.
i didn't know this. sumps and garage door openers? what if you have a dedicated line in a garage for a freezer or fridge? no exception there either?

Nope, they did away with all the exceptions, except alarm panel and deicing equipment.

Why do you think its crazy? To me, crazy is allowing a non gfci protected receptacle available to a HO... :)
