Yep I was looking for better price range than that.
It's gonna be used for HID lighting on a golf drivin range.
If you don't like that price, you really gonna have a heart attack when you look at a lighting contactor (assuming you will get a lighting contactor since you are controlling lights).

Nope don't plan on getting a lighting contactor. They don't want to spend the money, so they will have to keep switching them with their present disconnect original farm electrician installed for them. They were hoping to get something more convenient.

Eh since you guys mentioned lighting contactors ill add another question. What IS the difference between a general purpose contactor and a lighting one? I went with a $80 general purpose one a while back for some pole lighting instead of the $200 lighting one. What gives?

General purpose may not be as durable, you can get rebuild kits for most lighting contactors. One is louder than the other if in an area that matters.
I've used them also with no ill results with yrs of service.
Some may say that a DP is designed for replacement in designed control situations, and that's only time they should be used.

Definitely true. It's the difference between "UL listed" and "UL recognized".

It's only designed to be used as an engineered replacement component in a UL listed assembly, whereas NEMA contactors are the bomb-proof cousin for anything within their rating.
