2 family 400 amp meter setup

I have a two family home with a 200 amp panel in each dwelling. Service is overhead, and I'd like to get one of these 2 gang meter setups, but im having some problems...

Ive called around to several supply houses, and one place can get a 2 gang 400 amp meter base, but it will take at least a week to get here and it will only accept 2 1/2, so that means I wont be able to use aluminum feeders. And its a bit pricy, around $550.

Looking for some suggestions on what others would do here. I really want one that will accept 3" overhead, and not run the price through the roof. Im also tossing around the idea of bringing my overhead riser into a trough and nippling down to two meters...and suggestions would be appreciated.

You really need 400 amps? I kind of doubt that you do. :whistling2:

I actually had to do a load calc on this one to be sure , and yes, 200 amps was way more than they needed. But it was what the customer asked for, so thats what I put in.

Each apt is about 1250 sq ft. All electric.

So...answer my question! :whistling2:
Well then, the only option I can think of is a gutter and two separate 200 amp meter sockets.
You need disconnects built in to the double meter base since the panels won't be grouped together inside?

How about aluminum 350MCM's inside of the 2 1/2" pipe to make a 300A service? That's should cover the whole house.

Im leaning this way, but I'd like to use one of those combo meter bases if I can. It would be quicker to install and I'd just like to try on out.

I will need disconnects because both panels are further than 6 ft inside each apt.

I could possibly do 320 amp. That's what all the 400 amp services around here are anyway.

Didn't think about that.
