Hi guys so I finally have become an registered apprentice! Now I've been out of school for 17 years and want to pick up an "for dummies " book. Should I grab the math for dummies or the technical for dummies?
I need to refresh my math because I forget lots of formulas

I live in Alberta Canada so I'm not sure if the red seal course is different out here?

If it's at all possible, try taking a prep course offered at the local college that does the apprentice training. They will prep you and teach you the specific math you need to get good at. Because it's quite specific.

Definitely do something though, the math is the hardest part for many guys who haven't been in school in forever, or where never good at math to begin with.

Thanks Frunk I was always good in math but it's all foggy. You can't give me a good study book? Internet says tech for dummies really good for electricians!?
So happy to be joining the spark family!

No I don't know a study book, I never used one.. I was always good at math, and pretty recent grad from college.

But I saw many guys struggle with the math.. really holds up your ability to learn when you can't figure out the math.

A good website to learn some math is Khan Academy... it's a free website where he teaches all different concepts of education. Definitely brush up on algebra and trigonometry.

I want to be one of Alberta's best! Not good but great!
Well that won't be very hard.

Joking! Alberta produces good sparky's. By the end you'll probably find you just want to pass. :)

Also key in school is staying ahead of the material. Read the next section the night before.. it gives you heads up, so you can actually soak up what you don't understand the next day, and ask questions.

3rd year stuff , huh ? I must have missed that class way back when I was a third year , lol ! I'd concentrate on the 1st year stuff , that may change your opinion on that equation ? I appreciate your enthusiasm , but don't out the cart before the horse . Good luck !

I really appreciate the heads up! I'm into commericial/industrial now not just lighting up the roads! I want to be one of Alberta's best! Not good but great!
Well they say timing is everything. For sure by the time you are a journeyman I'll retire and the 'great' position will be open. :whistling2:

Ya gotta bang her off tho. I'm not sure if I an hold her for 4 more years. Right now i got Edmonton south to the north half of Red Deer.

Granddaughter is in Vancouver so Frunk has to watch out when I retire. No more changing light bulbs for him when I get there.

Its our 600Y/347. No idea why we did not go with 600/347.
Dang good point. The shoe shops used a lot of 600v when they switched from water power to electricity, since it was more forgiving wire size speaking. Really neat how they took the drive belt off of the shafts running each line of equipment and chucked a 600v electric motor on the end. Now like you say it is predominantly 277/480 in industrial. It's not like 600v is any more dangerous.
