If you create a noodle, you've an SDS, if you've an SDS you've an MBJ & GEC's Aegis.....

Isn't the factory bonding strap large enough to handle the fault current?

That strap is most likely just tying the core to the enclosure.

Grounding vs Bonding.
Yes, 10-812 says that for your grounding conductor #6 is enough.
But, from the can to the X0 isn't grounding, it's bonding. 10-814 & Table 16 come into play.
But still, I have no idea where the inspector is getting 1/0 from, unless you're largest conductor is rated for 800A. (Must be a huge voltage drop )

Table 16 says #6 is fine to me but I still say if a factory bonding strap is installed that's all you need
