They're a pretty tight-knit group. Most of the power they use is generated by small on-farm windmills to pump the well mechanically, a run a little DC generator to charge the batteries they use to work the flashing lights and headlights on the buggies. Some of them run diesel powered generators in their shops and barns (diesel is okay with some of them, but not gasoline). Never seen an Amish solar system.

If any of you all ever get a windmill job, here's the Amish people that do a fantastic job with windmill power. Windmills are all they do, day in and day out, and they travel for hundreds of miles around:
