In NEC Article 220, Part III (Feeder and Service Load Calculations) what provision is there for an air conditioner load ?

W-H-E-R-E in Part III does air conditioner load fit into the scheme of things?

Ranges, clothes dryers, etc, are addressed. But what about an air conditioner load ?

( related...in Annex D example D1(b), as presented in 2008 NEC Handbook, why does the shaded area commentary on the example refer to article 220 Part IV, section 220.82(C)(1), for air conditioner load code, when the rest of the problem, beginning in example D1(a) relies on Part III of Article 220--and NOT on the optional method of Part IV )?
