Does anyone out there have a Bonus Program for employees that you use for bringing in new clients, extra work, etc? I have several employees that have come from other companies and have brought customers with them. Some are general contractors that give us repeat, non-bid work, and some are random service clients. I would like to compensate these guys for what they bring to the table as well as future prospective employees. Also, a bonus program for up-selling would be nice to have as well. I mean, why should the owner be the only person capable of bringing in work, right?! :)

I would just be careful with the up-sell part. You don't want your employees running out of the little old ladies house shouting the panel's about to blow. We can upgrade you to 600A 3/0 the beginning of next week.

We have performance bonus system. Paid on profitability of projects, meeting specific targets, etc.

Don't really get into new customers or field generated sales.

In those circumstances, the person who is leading that potential sale would take lead on pricing, etc and would be eligible for any bonus available.

If a person came to you for hiring, his paycheck is all that he came for. To insinuate to a prospective employee that you will "take care of him" if he fu**s his current employer is very tacky in my opinion. If, on occasion, an employee displays extra effort there is nothing wrong with acknowledgement...and possibly a bonus...maybe at Christmas, and such. Your displaying a lack of respect for other contractors will make an employee disrespect you, as well.

You lost me there, I can't see rewarding an employee for bringing in a new customer is disrespecting anyone or any other contractor.
