I have an oven , the element broke in half sparks flying, resident shut off all controls and still sparks were going so she shut off the range breaker. I came along and replaced the element with oem replacement , made sure all wires were secure and not touching the service cover in any way. I turned on the range breaker and tripped the main breaker to the apartment unit. My question is why did the main trip and not the range breaker that i just flipped on?
Since then , I have replaced the entire range and all works well.
