Does a carport require a gfci receptacle as a garage would under minimum code?

Are you asking if a receptacles is required in a carport? Obviously if one is installed then it must be gfci however, IMO the nec does not require one if it is attached, however it would be wise to install one.

210.52(G) would be the answer and I could see an inspector requiring one in a carport attached to the structure since a garage would be required to have one

It's underneath the house, basically a garage without a door.
It's a damp location away from rain, I suppose I can use an old style flip cover.

It is outside. It must be GFCI. The fact that the house might cover it doesnt change the fact that it is outside.

I say a carport, being nothing more than an outdoor covered parking area, does NOT need a receptacle. I don't even think it needs a light.
