does anyone know where in the Canadian Code it's mention not to mix cat5 and 240V in the same junction box?
From what I remember one cannot install both in the same box.

I have to hook up an outdoor sign and the seller provided only a junction box with cat5e and 12awg together...

divider for 1 gang (IHD3)? both wires come from inside the sign. It was built like that. No way to separate them.
Coming in through a KO in the box?
Can you install a divider that bisects the KO, cat5e on one side and 240 on the other?

If the sign was designed that way, with the box and wires preinstalled by the factory, then I think you are ok to leave it as-is. Sign guys tend to do whatever they want.

Cover your ass though. Are you installing the sign or just connecting it to comms and power?

If it came that way and has a CSA/ULC sticker, I'm splicing. Done. Invoice.

Divider idea is just trying to help you be okay with the installation and staying within CEC. If it's out of your comfort zone, leave it to another company to cash the cheque.

Can't leave it to another company. I work for the buyer and I have to hook up the sign. They paid big money for it and expect quality.
There is no CSA/ULC sticker.

are you joking? :001_huh: the sticker is mandatory?
Nope. No sticker, no connection.

I've had customers really get peeved at me for not connecting but I sleep at night.

Fixture wins 1st prize at a show in Toronto. Customer has bucks, buys it (from Italy or something). I ain't hanging that. Customer has friend which supplies a Alberta sticker (Alberta no longer does this but did then). Pretty shady so I phone in the number. It's for a strip fixture. GC hung that fixture for them... and has never called me back.

Chinese contractors building a bunch of duplexes, bring in a tub, shower, radio, TV, jacuzzi, steamer and god knows what else it does combo tub. They brought in 8 from Hong Kong or somewhere. I don't know what they did with them but I connected approved jacuzzi units for them. They also never called me back.
