I found a sticker on a utility meter pan that stated caution red shield. Does anyone know what this means? I have not been able to contact the utility company today.
Assuming you're talking about the bypass lever inside, where do you get the idea ConEd outlawed them? They are required in certain cases, not outlawed...Ok. If any cares to know what this means when ConEd slaps this sticker on a meter. It's because the Meter pan has a by-pass switch which ConEd outlawed many years ago because the meters were known to explode with these type of meter pans.
I spoke to John from Energy Services and he told me they have deemed them unsafe. But, if they already exist you're grandfathered in.GDK 13 said:Assuming you're talking about the bypass lever inside, where do you get the idea ConEd outlawed them? They are required in certain cases, not outlawed...
They're a bunch of idiots over there. One is worse than the other. It's in the blue book to use a bypass meter pan. All commercial 200A have it, and all PLP for multi-unit apartment buildings have it as well. You better watch out because what he "says" to you on the phone is different than what the blue book/service layout says.I spoke to John from Energy Services and he told me they have deemed them unsafe. I'm passing along what I was told.
Possibly.Jlarson said:Could they be talking about old automatic spring bypass sockets? We have some of those here.
