In the past, employers I worked for had a company christmas party and also gave the workers a little gift (a tool, gift card, etc.). For the past 2 years now my current employer held a party, but that is it. Just wondering if this is becoming more common among contractors.

This year we had our usual Employee Appreciation Breakfast (grilled pork chop, french toast, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice, coffee, and all the soda we could drink). Then they have a drawing for prizes that range from tools of all kinds, an electric smoker, coolers, gift cards, etc. Everybody wins something. This year I won a 60" LG LED Smart TV! Then just last week they gave us our annual holiday bonus. Mine was $5000 before taxes which is about average for me. Guess I just work for a generous company.

Oh, and I get a chance to buy in to the company next year. I am one of 3 chosen to do so.

Holy crap!! Last contractor I worked for did away with Christmas bonuses after 40+ years of giving them. No notice of any kind. Just no bonus check one year. Not even a ham gift certificate. I was at $500 the year before. Some were over $1000. Then nothing. They still give nothing from what I hear thru the grape vine.

the company I work for is about to sink, so no, no christmas party. Not like I would want to spend any extra time there anyway.
Our company has an office staff only Xmas party. They've for 20 years done it this way. And on a side note all our company trucks are special ordered with no A/C.

Let me get this right - you paid for your Christmas meal? Did you leave a nice tip?
LoL, no tip, no nothing.
Heck we had it at our normal unpaid lunch time.

That's funny.

A few years ago they had our garage people remove all the stock AM radios. They were worried we would spent time listing to them.
So here they had a large pile of radios one day and the next they went missing. I've heard thru the grapevine they were sold at a local flee market.

After that they ordered a complete audit of all the equipment on our yard. They went wild over the missing old trailer. They never mentioned the brand new BobCat that was on it.

Yeah I could see lots of lost work time listening to farm reports, spanish stations and static. :whistling2::rolleyes:

The Bobcat story, now that's classic. And typical of a military/gubbment workplace.

As for the original topic, I didn't even get paid at all for the current job yet and haven't had a Xmas bonus in over 10 years.
