eBay and Amazon insulate themselves from product liability using the legal principal of "caveat emptor", meaning "buyer beware". It basically says that it is incumbent on the BUYER to understand the requirements for the products they purchase and to make sure the products they buy meet those requirements. It's really BS though because a brick-and-mortar store has to worry about being sued, because they BUY and resell it. With Amazon and eBay, they are transacting it, but they don't buy and resell most of this kind of crap, so they will use their lawyer power to stay out of any lawsuits. then because the makers of this crap are in China, there is no way for a US consumer to go after them if their house burns down.

And what these crypto miners fail to realize is that when this crap burns their house down, and an insurance investigator finds this as the cause, they will get out of having to pay for the damages because it isn't listed by an NRTL.

I was thinking sell them with no inspection, and simply specify "local AHJ inspection required". Here they'd need SPE-1000 inspection. USA is probably similar, but this way, I can still sell them without the extra expense of certifying them by making the end user... and you KNOW that no one will have them certified...

Who's paying for power?

The unit he uses consumes about 5w and that’s about 0.12kWh per day.
I think he calculates that into his net profit. I really don’t think he does it for the money but he likes experimenting.
He even wound his own tesla coil.
The last time I was over to his house he was wrapping wine bottles with tin foil and filling them with salt water and inserting rods to see if he could build his own capacitors.
