This is a new one on me. Does anyone know what it is used for. Service entrance cables come into it and then two electrical panels are fed from it. Is it for surge protection? Help.

You are probably right. I just haven't seen any of those around here. Even older homes serviced by AEP have newer meters. Here is a pic of the meter.

Heres a 600a ct in a resi basement... Ct cab is to left.. House is >3000sqft and ive only seen one other in my area in 20 yrs
