A few years ago, the company I worked for was contracted by the city to replace the incandescent lamps in traffic signals with LEDs.

I less than a month, roughly 50% of the fancy new LEDs had filed or partially failed. We weren't even done replacing the incandescents when we started replacing the new LEDs.

I hear they're better now.........

The Leotek lights didn't last 3 years. The LED molded lenses are melting due to the heat. The same problem is occurring in California and Texas.

The city used multiple suppliers, and the others (listed in news reports below) have been working fine. Video shows LED condition

I know some of ours are Cree, not sure for all of them, maybe 400 fixtures or so.

Led has come a long way and most manufacturers are good about warranty although that doesn't cover labour. We have had streetlight issues but after the retrofit by the manufacturer, all seem good now.
We have a newer maintenance shop, office area two different high bay LEDs in the mechanics shop and in stores.
In the mechanics shop, we have replaced every driver at least twice and now we are going to replace the fixtures. Different fixture in stores and not a single issue.

What ever happened to Mr. “light emitting decorations”? Permaban?

I’m surprised Detroit is even a city anymore. I thought it had been overrun with wild animals, crack heads and democrats years ago.
