We can file everything online. If we want we can fill it all out before we start and get a temp permit that needs to be paid before inspection

Not unless it's an emergency type thing.

I usually like to put work off and schedule it for a convenient time anyway, so telling the homeowner we need to wait 2 weeks for the town to approve the permit is a benefit to me.

In NJ, legally the work cannot start until the permits been approved unless it's an emergency repair.

I do that quite often actually. Last job I did cheque was in the bank for a couple of days when I got the permit and scheduled inspection.

Now days we file by computer. I usually get a permit within an hour.
