Hi, looking for some Florida Information.

I'm a retired engineer (Masters in EE) that has worked many disciplines within EE including AC (to 240 3-phase) / DC distribution. I have taken 2 personally owned (new start) houses and two new additions from inception through inspection (without deficiency) in three different states. In one of my “retirement jobs” I worked as a “maintenance electrician” in a state that did not require employees to be licensed electricians. Working on up to 480 3-phase. (i.e. I’m somewhat experienced)

I currently work part-time in sales seasonally in Florida. My employer needs some simple electrical work done in his storefront.

My question is “Does Florida permit UNLICENSED employees to perform electrical work on an employer’s (commercial) premises, and if so, does that work require a permit / inspection?

I believe that the answer is no, as 20+ years ago my Dad was a Maintenance Shop supervisor for a large mining operation in Central Florida, and none of his ‘guys’ were licensed nor were permits ever pulled in an operation that had ~20 electricians working full time out of one shop.

there are a lot of exceptions in the code for industrial sites operated/maintained by qualified individuals, and also for mining especially.
So comparing what your dad did 20 yrs ago to a retail storefront is
really a nonsequitur. what county/city ? I'm sure someone from FL
will reply shortly.

Couple corrections to my initial post (now that I have a reading Rx on my eyes)

1. Should read "I believe that the answer is YES"...
& 2, should be "citation" (not sight).
