Hey all,

Anyone here in the Edmonton AB area that can recommend a company to install some poles for some cameras for us?

One of the guys at the office got some prices around 6.5k each for I think a 40' hydro pole, installed.... I'm not sure if that's the going rate or not.

We don't need anything that's an official hydro pole, similar but not stamped would be sufficient.

TIA,
Kevin

Does it have to be 40' and wood? You could likely set a manufactured post much cheaper.

Direct burial?
Foundation?
What's the frost line? Do you have to meet that?
Direct burial preferred.
I'd have to google frost depth, but I'd imagine it would be deeper than that regardless.

I was told I need it to be 30' above grade to the top.

No, doesn't have to be wood.

Prices I have are 10+ years old, but we used to have any Utility contractor put in a Hydro pole (wood) for $1,600.

Try googling 'Utility contractors' , or contact the Cities Traffic dept. and see who they use.

Around Ottawa it's contractors like Greely, ATA, even Aecon.

Around Ottawa we have contractors for this, one of them is Kanata Utilities (they have a digger derrick with a bucket attachment for bucket truck use).

I will see who they reached out to, and make some more calls.

He said rent a backhoe and do it yourself, the pole should be under 2K.

Tim.
I'd rent a backhoe and do it myself, but we are an Ottawa Company, so I'd have to hire a company to do it anyway.

Around here that's what I'd do, especially for my own place, but a commercial construction site has more paperwork involved haha

Provided there are no underground conflicts where I need a hydrovac, I have 35' wood service poles (used, no rot, 30' above grade) mechanically augured & installed for $2,000 each. Frost doesn't matter, the auger can manage to drill/bore through it. No backhoe req'd...no need for one. A pole should be drilled, placed, leveled/racked, and hydraulically tamped in 1 hour....no big deal.
