Is there anything in the code book that states that electrical boxes may not be attached to a steel member by means of welding? If so, i need the reference. Please help me out, thank you!

I don't know of anything in the NEC but you may want to check the listing of the enclosure to be safe.

When I worked with my previous employer the company we were doing work for they wanted all of their switch and outlet boxes welded, so we welded all of the malleable steel boxes to the locations on the steel.
