What is your slowest month?

We do mostly service calls and small projects such as kitchen and basement rewires.

Ours is definitely February. Especially right after Valentines Day. Same exact time as last year. The phone has stopped ringing completely with the exception of a couple of service calls.

We have 2 completely different sources for our business and both stop producing calls right around the same time.

Our work seems to slow down in January and starts getting busy again in Feb. We seem to be constantly waiting for equipment in January. Must be supplier backlog after the X-mas holidays or something.

January and February are our slow months.I figured out it must be most ECs slow time-they just recognized it years before and know to low ball for cash flow for those 2 months. This has to be the case because most of the feed back on the jobs we have bid is you're 20-30% high??? There is no way -we are using the same OH&P as we did all last year when we were right on.

I actually like a little down time every now and then where i can schedule 1 small job each day for a week, but when the phone doesn't ring for a few days in a row and I'm not booked out at the very least a week, I can't help but think about those days when I first started out on my own a couple of years ago. Scary times.

It's funny, when I'm real busy, I feel like the run will never end and when it's slow a couple times a year it always reminds me of when I first started. Lights a little fire under me which I guess is good.

When I worked for other companies we always seemed to slow down in Feb. and March (service work).

I started ramping up my advertising in November to help for the slowdown. I am slammed, but I think it has more to do with our local economy than my advertising efforts. We are just a service business, but we are booked out till almost April at the moment, which is good and bad. It makes it a little difficult to get to the small service calls, the ones where we establish new business relationships.

Usually late December after the 25th until April. January was very slow. It has picked up somewhat in Feb. and March should be better.

Febuary is a pain..

I have just the opposite problem..I have been very busy this past Jan and Febuary..my problem is getting paid...I find people hold on to their money until taxes are done..cash flow is dwindling!! Once payroll is meant there isnt much left for bills!!

Remember, I live on Planet Macmikeman. Things are different here. There is an even shorter month here and its called we love Obama month. Goes by very fast. Very very very very very fast. But we don't celebrate that one every year.

Were usually swamped all year round, this has been different and we are slowing down the last couple of months. Being busy and continually growing is great, but sometimes it's nice to catch up and get your head above water in a business stand point. You learn in the slow months where your inefficiencies set and can make the required changes before your swamped again. Most my guys know to take holidays firing these months and know it's not the end if the world to take a day off. I fill the slow times with snowmobiling being from Manitoba!
