Thought I'd let you guys know if you cared, it would be good for home or an apprentice. I don't like that it's refurbished, but not bad.

That's a good deal. I've bought Milwaukee refurbished stuff from CPO. Great stuff and it still looked brand new.

Just yours, or the tool in general?

Been thinking about getting one of those.
I don't know. Why don't you buy one and tell me if it works? If it does, I'll take mine back. Right now a cheap twenty buck stud finder works better.

All I know is that I can't get my money back. Refurbished Milwaukee has a repair warranty only, no replacements, no refunds.

A friend of mine got hired as a maintenance bulb changer type of position, they gave him $500 to buy tools with. For some strange reason he bought the Milwaukee M12 package that included the sub scanner. He never used it so he tried to sell it to me, I told him I would test it out for a week or two.

I hated it. It may work well to tell you where rebar is inside of solid concrete, but for old plaster and wood lath walls, it sucks. And it was no better than my cheap stud finder (the yellow and black brand, I forget the name) for drywall walls.

Until they come up with a portable e-ray system, I am going to stick to using a really strong magnet and a very small drill bit to find studs.

Hack Work
I would thank you for your post but apparently I've been a bit too promiscuous with my thanks lately and don't have any left. Hopefully that counter will reset tomorrow. :)

This thing is too big and clumsy just for finding studs. A cheap stud finder will do that job better. I wanted it to find wire in the wall, both energized and dead, which it is supposed to do. It gets so many conflicting readings, it's useless.

Oh I did too. I tried it on walls in which the backside was open to see if it would show the pipes or wires and it performed horribly.

That's funny because I have been testing mine every night for a week. My results have been fantastic.
I have set up many practical tests and so far, I have been very satisfied.

I have done several controlled tests in my house and at work. The only real issue I have, is that you need to be patient and scan slowly. The first few scans were all over the map. Also, the calibration is crucial.
Once I read the manual and took my time, I was very pleased.

Rebar was a no brainer. This works exactly as advertised.

Here are a few tests I did, with some basic results:

1. 1/2 drywall, concealed 4x4, 14/2 in, 14/2 out. Not only was I able to find the 4x4 very easily, the depth was within a 1/4 inch.
I was also able to find the wires and even trace them up and down the wall, depth was within a 1/4 inch. Voltage tester showed live lines. Stud finder was 99% bang on with edges and stud center.

2. 1/2 EMT in cinder block, with live conductors. EMT about 3 inches from face.
It found the EMT with no issue, depth was accurate to 3/8 - 1/2". Voltage tester worked as well. Only detected the ferrous metal, wasn't able to see inside the EMT and tell me that there was copper, stupid useless tool.

For $130 it is worth every penny.
