When about to feed 4 500's and a 1/0 ground through a 4" LB and somebody suggest feeding the wire in from the back and then down through the bottom what is the first thing that strikes you?

That unless it is very large LB that it is likely a violation regardless of which way you install it.

I should probably add that the reason they wanted to do this is because they wanted to terminate the wires inside the mdp because a sharp bend and how close the lugs were to the 4" in the cabinet. So, the wires coming into the LB had already been terminated before they were to be pushed down through the bottom of the condulet.

Both, it will say inside the LB the max size and number of conductors.

I would call the "barrel" the bottom and the handle the "back" if you held the LB like a pistol.

It is. I looked it up. A mogul LB will take 6-500's though. That would be fun.

Well really I could not care any less which way up it is but in my view there is no 'right way' to feed wire into it. Each job has it's own situation.

But unless its a mogul LB its a NEC violation in either direction.

I've put 4 500s through 4" LBs probably a couple hundred times. Who gives a f*** what it has stamped on it. You, me, and everybody else here knows they fit just fine

Looked the other day at inside stamped label on a 4" scepter PVC LB. It read (3) 350 Mcm max fill

Lb's are the devil, with large conductors. I go out of ny way to avoid using them. Just my .02
