So, I got a call Saturday morning. Customer stated panel was buzzing. I told him that I could come out for said fee. He said he would call back.
Later that afternoon, he calls back. He says he tried to go thru his home warranty company, but they couldn't get anyone out on a Saturday. I explained that they use "bottom feeders" and craigslist types for contactors and he said he knew already due to other contractors they had sent out for prior issues.
Long story short, the warranty company says for him to call his own contractor and they will authorize it over the phone. When I get there, the nut that bolts the busses together is almost falling off of the bolt and welded together. B phase is burned and I tell him he needs a new panel. He calls his warranty company to get authorization and they will only allow $2500 even though my price is $3300 plus some change to swap a 200a load center in sheetrock. I tell him I need full price, and they say they can't get anyone until Tuesday (remember Monday is a holiday) to authorize. I put all his single pole breakers on A phase, collect my call out fee and tell him we'll see him on Tuesday.
So, today, we show up to do the job. The warranty company calls, wants to ask 50 questions (trying to avoid responsibility). Finally, he gets authorization and we complete the job.
And here is the funny part. The warranty company rep tells the HO, "For future reference, you can get this job done for $800. He tells them, "For future reference, find someone to come out on a Saturday!"
