As if pulling a live fuse on AC isn't bad enough !
Pulling on on DC is just sheer madness,
I wouldn't want to be any where near it !
It would have to have a long handle
at least 10 meters !
Even better get the trainee to do it !


 
The trick was to kill all loads after the fuses, so that no current flowed.

Still ... a very lousy scheme.

Back in the day, the intent was the limit the AIC headed towards the knife-switch.
 
I don't know how it's done down in Oz, but most fuses on systems below 600 V are de-energized prior to pulling. Anything at primary distribution voltages that done live is done by stick.
 
There is no fing way I do this hot. Not because of the fuse change so much as everything else in that box is 120 years old. You have to yank like a mother on that thing to get it out and anything could happen. Then you have a real emergency on your hands and will be paying for that new disco out of your own pocket.
