@hack is the man for this.

What I'd tell you is to create your web page, then get on Google Maps, then do a Google Ads campaign and hit it hard for the first few months, then shut it down. Once Google has you established at your location and in your area, you will show up on searches for your services in your service area.

But Hack will tell you you're an electrician, not a SEO company, and to hire a SEO company.

We're both right. Take your pick.

Doing the work yourself is OK for a guy just starting out with an extra 40-50 hours per week of downtime because he does not have much work yet.

An established business with many fulltime employees just looking to increase their calls has absolutely no time to spend the hundreds of hours it takes to educated themselves and setup a proper Google presence and website, let alone an AdWords campaign that actually works.

When it comes to AdWords, paying someone to do the campaign will directly cost you less money. And I am not even talking about the cost of your own time, forget about that. I am talking about the wasted Ad Spend. If you pay a firm $300/month to run your Adwords campaign with an Ad Spend of $500 per month, you will get more leads than if you put the entire $800 into the Ad Spend of a campaign that you run yourself. It's the same as paying an accountant $500 to yield you thousands of dollars in refunds that you didn't know existed.

I've got the google place, 6 years established, now it's time to start driving heavier call volume.

I agree with Hack, I've talked to alot of people in different fields, there's no reason to try and setup/manage a campaign myself and wasted ad dollars.

I'm just looking for the right avenue for a firm.

It's low cost to try it yourself. Test it out and see what you can do. If you can learn to do it yourself you'll save money. It's pretty easy honestly.

I could not disagree with this more.

The money you will waste learning as you go will easily pay for a pro to do it.

Yes, someone CAN do it for themselves, but it will NEVER be as good as having a pro do it.

Could you do your own tax return? Of course. Would you save money doing your own tax return? Absolutely not. You would make way more money doing a few hours of electrical work to pay an accountant who is going to get you a larger return and keep you in better compliance than you could ever do yourself.

Hi. Small business owner here. What's your question about google ads? Or are you trying to get some tips on how to fully use it?
