I don't understand the different sizes of hammer drills, I'm looking at some bosch sds max hammer drills but there are so many sizes, what do they mean?
Example 1 1/8" and 2"

. That number ( 1 1/8" , etc . ) is the largest solid bit rated for these tools . I've never tested this theory with a lot of holes , but have definitely successfully drilled holes larger than the rating of the machine itself . For an sds max to spline drive , I wouldn't go smaller than 1 1/2" . An 1 1/2" Bosch or hilti will drill holes and drive ground rods all day long , with no issues .Jah Electric said:I don't understand the different sizes of hammer drills, I'm looking at some bosch sds max hammer drills but there are so many sizes, what do they mean? This is correct, in addition, the rating is for solid concrete. The Motts said:The number is the largest size bit the drill is rated for.
