I worked on plant Vogtle units 1&2 in the mid 1980s. That was one of very few big jobs going on back then. Cleveland Consolidated was the electrical contractor, Bechtel did the engineering. I was on a high voltage termination crew and we had a Bechtel engineer assigned to us full time. He was a very bright young man who was always helpful.

If you're even considering working there, check the NWS climate conditions for that area. My stance is that if the world ever gets an enema; Waynesboro GA will be where the tube is inserted. I remember seeing temps over 100 by noon with plenty of humidity to accompany it. They had mosquitoes about the size of chickens, it was a miserable place. They did work 4 10 hour days with OT for anything over 8 hours per day and paid I believe a 15% premium for working second shift.

Worked for Bechtel in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) one summer 45+ years ago, with a bunch of friends right after high school and our apprentice program. Bechtel was fine and I made good money there pulling wire and bending pipe in the 100F heat (even at night). But they warned us no to venture out of the American compound and we did. THAT was a big mistake. While walking around in town, some Saudi guards forced us at gunpoint to participate in a public stoning of a woman accused of adultery. Not just watch, they poked us in the back with their rifles when we didn't pick up rocks and hurl them. Then when we didn't show enough "enthusuiasm" or accuracy, we got poked again. They thought it was humorous to make us Americans do that. It was not in the least bit humorous to us and the woman died of course. We never left the compound again until our contract was over and none of us renewed. But I made over $40k in 4 months, which in 1977 was 3 times what I normally made in a year.
