It actually was never a concern of employers until background check companies started lobbying Congress for laws to make it legal for an employer to check credit records for employment purposes. Then, these background check companies sold big companies on why they should use a credit check to disqualify employees. As more and more big companies believed that they should be doing this, smaller and smaller companies followed suit.I never understood why employers do a credit check, so what if I'm in debt what do you care lol

I've seen people working every day and still steal from their bosses. Credit checks are worthless unless you are trying to sell someone a piano. As far as credit checks go I believe the idea behind it is if the person is having financial problems they are a greater risk for theft, especially in a management position, that may have access to company funds.
Even guys with 60 employees? Most of the guys I've worked for never gave 1/10th of a crap as long as you can get it done.
Why is a self-proclaimed apprentice ( your profile)asking these types of questions?[\QUOTE]
I was involved in a minor altercation when I was a child.
What about the folks your boss hires?I'm skeptical how often they really do check references; and I'd say I think we also do a criminal history check, but then I see some of the folks we hire...
