Do you simply say "Yes" or do you smart off and ask them if they want to hear a worse price? I just don't understand the logic of this question.
In cases like that, we'll provide different quotes for different job scopes."Yes that is the best price, but I can offer you different options for the work."
I'm there to make a buck. They are there to get the best work for a given amount of money. I see no shame in a customer asking. Why people get upset at that question makes no sense to me.
best answer , offer options."Yes that is the best price, but I can offer you different options for the work."

do you pay full price for everything? I ask for a best price all the time I am not offended if they say no and if they give me a better deal it was worth asking. Now when someone gives me a smart off answer I say thank you and leave. If you lack customer service skills before the sale how will you be after the sale.Do you simply say "Yes" or do you smart off and ask them if they want to hear a worse price? Great post, no better way to say it. They may be hungry for a steak but can only afford a soft taco. Better to sell them a soft taco and make a little money than play hardball over the steak."Yes that is the best price, but I can offer you different options for the work."

how many options is there to install a plug fed off of one 5 foot away?I always tell them that that's the best price we can give for the scope of work and if they would like a lower price we would need to remove some things from the scope of work
Why doesn't it make sense?seriously, i don't get upset at that question, i think its stupid for them even to ask. did they think i gave them the price to do the job? or did they think i gave them a price to start negotiating from? imo, i just doesn't make sense.
