Please bear with me as I'm not very informed on union information.

I just have a few "how to get started" questions.

I am currently not affiliated with any Union whatsoever. I work for a non union company, with 7 years experience.

1- how do you begin to approach a union?

2- do you work for the union itself? Or a contractor that is a Union contractor?

3- is the experience I already have worth anything as far as placing into a pay grade? Or do I just start from scratch, for lack of better word.

I am located in north Carolina if that makes a difference in answers.

Am I on the right track?

You get started by contacting your local union hall. You work for contractors but they hire you though the hall. Your experience may or may not be taken into account, that depends upon your local hall.

Best of luck.
