how many plugs in a parking lot

Hi,

I don't have my code handy and just wondering how many plugs you can have on a 14/2 circuit in a parking lot? How about if the circuit is controlled by a timer?
All plugs are used for engine block heaters.

thanks

Put as many plugs out there as you want. Absolutely no restrictions on that. There are limits on receptacles, however.

Hi
We usually do one 15a cct for 2 cars. Nowadays, with diesel trucks everywhere, they can easily use up a 20a cct by themselves. (Depends what the owners have added) eg oil warmer, battery blanket, circulating heater, ....
A 14/2 circuit used for car plugs?
1 duplex serving two stalls - maybe, depending on distance.

I googled "plugs" it was quite disturbing. I would hate to think what Bing would pull up.

I guess I have to run new circuit to be up to code... and it's -30C
How many parking spots are there? You need one circuit per spot, only one duplex receptacle per circuit. CEC 8-400

It's common to use one split plug for two stalls.

4 parking spots but never more than 3 buses parked

As per 8-400, you would need four 15 amp circuits.

how much?
About $ 150 -$ 175 per.
Check to see if Hydro in your area offers a rebate.

Are these receptacles metered such as in dropping a $1.00 in the machine for 3 hours of electricity.

No
They are a power management system. They can be programmed for temperature, duration and power limiting.
And, I'm not 100% sure, you can read the power consumption.
Is there such a thing as public receptacles for engine heaters? How do they bill for electricity.

Might be worth designing a parking meter like head that accepts coins and CCs in exchange for power

Yes and no. You can't pull into Walmart and plug your car in.

Most employers will install receptacles in the parking lot for there employees use.

You will also see them in parking garages where you pay for the parking spot.

These are almost always installed in the cold of winter, and never in the nice weather of summer.

14/2 seems a little undersized assuming the distance and other possible derating factors.
