My wife and I hired a HVAC guy to come and bring our heat pump up to date. I'm up in the attic as he is looking over the AHU and he looks at the Romex 8/2 or 6/2 going from the load side of the disco to the unit, and says, "you can't use romex to feed these anymore. Gotta be SE cable now. It's a code thing.)

I'm pretty sure that's not true, but am if I'm wrong let me know.....

I think he was taking us for an ride......

Huh?

It's really got to be in RMC..

If it's inside a house dry location you can use Romex even in the 2014 NEC.

Fire him and get someone else.

Well guys I called and talked to the inspector, and even though he couldn't give me a reference he said it was statewide required. I'll really pick his brain when he comes out here to look at it all

if you are talking about the outdoor unit, then romex isn't allowed in the whip from the disconnect to the unit

but you can use thwn or uf wire in carflex.....doesn't have to be SE
