Industrial GFI's Are Finally Here

What is an Industrial GFCI?
An industrial GFCI (UL calls it a “special purpose” GFCI) operates like any other, except for some important differences. First, the trip threshold is set at 20 mA, higher than its residential cousin. Second, the GFCI device must monitor the ground wire for open connections, so that if the connection to ground is lost, then the device will open the circuit. Third, an industrial GFCI interrupts higher power, so it must be much larger. It mounts like an electrical panel or inside an existing electrical cabinet.

They probably aren't UL Class A, but they've had high-power 5mA ground-fault protection for a while. I've installed many of them, up to 600V at 50A. But you also pay a small fortune. Maybe industrial GFCIs will be cheaper.

the word 'industrial' automatically doubles the price of anything:whistling2:

Yeah, but it's the Taller-Than-Danny-DeVito Contest, you can win and still be very short. I think the biggest Airpax GFP was a couple thousand bucks so even if the industrial GFCIs were several hundred, you'd be ahead of the game.
