I'm interviewing someone in a few hours for a Resi/commercial service position. A while back I saw a great thread on interview questions. It had several I didn't even consider. Anyone else remember seeing that, or have a suggestion. And Happy New Years all!

perhaps have the interview let him talk to you about his experience, listen to him as he speaks and maybe take notes, ask him if he can upsell a job, read between the lines and see how thorough you think he is. invite him back for a second interview and in the meantime ponder what your thoughts are about him and make notes.

Describe the electrical systems you have worked on and are familiar with.

Do you specialize in any specific areas of electrical work?

Describe a time when you had a problem you could not figure out and you had to find a solution on your own.

What does a fuse or breaker do? What are the differences between the two?

What does "14-2" mean?

How do you reverse the rotation of a Three Phase Motor?

Have them do some Hands On Work. Wire a 3 Way Switch, Wire a Motor. Wire a Ballast, Bend Conduit.

Take pictures of different installations and problems. Give the photos and a codebook to them. Tell them to write down every violation they can. Tell them to describe to you what's wrong and why. A service guy not only needs to know the code, but they need to know how to explain it to people that nothing about electrical work.
