Do any of you guys print invoices from your van or do you COD and print and mail an invoice later?
If you use an ipad and printer in truck does a laser printer work better than an inkjet?
I use an iPad and just email them,I keep a few paper invoices just in case but never really use them anymore.

I use Freshbooks for all my estimates and invoices and time tracking, as well as expenses.. it's sweet software. So far everyone has been fine with emails, it seems like everyone who would call an electrician has signed up for email.

The day some amish farmer demands a printed invoice on the spot is the day I'll start shopping for a printer, or the day I stop doing work for amish farmers.

Email it

I either email them a copy of the unpriced one or copy it to a stick and let them take it then and there, if they need it for labour tracking.. Or (usually) I email them copies of the priced ones and they email back the signed and coded copies for invoicing.
When we first went to electronic, they wanted me to carry a printer and I said "Why?" and explained what I was going to do... I don't think there are 5% of our guys that carry a printer on a daily basis in their truck..

It's funny because I occasionally work with an old timer that does kitchen cabinets and he just got an iPhone and doesn't know how to use it. Says, "I don't text and never will." Then he goes on and tells me how he's moving forward and into the future by getting a printer in the van. I'm like, "you have an iPhone, you don't need any of that anymore. Let me show you some things..."
