IR repeater

I am installing a TV above a fireplace and the set top box in the basement. I have done a few including my own home and just installed an IR repeater from RadioShack to control cable box from the living room. I have another one to do tomorrow and I can't find an IR repeater anywhere. What do you guys do on your installs?
Any ideas where I can get a repeater from?
Am I outdated installing the repeater?
The only way I see it can be done is with a wireless remote but those things are $200+ and you need to be an engineer to program them, I think a $30 repeater is a better option

I wish they would go to RF remotes for everything :mad:


I haven't done much of this in years. When I did, I used a company called Buffalo. They made an IR eye that you put in the room with the TV, you then ran Cat5 to connect that IR eye to a controller which would be located by the components. And then from that controller you could connect up to 4 IR blasters that you would attached to the IR eye on each component.

Thanks for all your help fellas but I was hoping if someone knew of a multi national chain that might have it on the shelf, I need it for tomorrow.

I had me TV above my fireplace in my last home, didn't have a problem with it, how far away is your couch?
