Most wives want new cabinets for the kitchen remodel; Mine wants a total tear-out and floor plan re-do. At first I wanted to give her a "piece" of my mind about that but there wouldn't be much left for me if I did that. In any case the redo is "ON". I have been an industrial electrician for the last 27 years and so am not up on the latest codes for residential. It WILL be permitted...by me. Any information about islands...islands with ranges...islands with ranges with overhead vent fans...double dutch ovens and such would be appreciated. My only salvation is that I saved all of the money from moving the PS devices..........That's a joke. I appreciate any help..

Go overkill on the number of circuits you install, it sucks to add one two years later. Especially at the kitchen counter!

Find out what code cycle you are on first off.....Good luck.

Down drafts are better than nothing. I wired a fancy island two years ago, induction cook-top and two pop-up GFCIs through quartz/resin.... BEAUTIFUL! Only drawback: all the LED light strips can be seen in the mirror like polish on the counter top. Home owner liked the effect.

Nothing personal, but downdrafts don't work well. They are fighting
physics -- hot smoke doesn't want to go down. Get a good hood.

Just my opinion, worth what you paid for it.
I have had one of these on my island with my smoothtop for over 20 years. It works like a charm when cranked up on high. It has a variable speed blower. The only thing that is a bit of a PITA is cleaning the mesh filters once a year. They collect grease pretty easily vs. an overhead hood filter.

Do you leave her alone during the day to watch the DIY channel? Bad You. Rule 1. Spousal channel control for DIY, HGTV, etc...

I think we need to initiate a class action suit against those knuckleheads. They wave their magic wands and use gapped time photography (gapped, as in showing only the highlights) and ‘VIOLA! New kitchen for you!

Uh huh. Really works like that… No, really! :whistling2:
