I work in some pretty sketchy areas of the city. Crappy apartments with natives sleeping in the hallways under garbage bags, stuff like that. I want to carry some kinda knife for protection. I don't really care about concealed or whatever, just want to know of anyone else does this. I'm thinking about a boot knife.

If I was that concerned with my safety on a job, I think I'd opt for something that goes bang, over a knife.

Boot knives are at a bit of a disadvantage because you have to bend over to get to it, taking your eyes off your target and in a vulnerable & off balanced position....

I agree, but living in canada that's not much of an option. Strict handgun laws I would end up behind bars with these **** bags.

A boot knife is silly for self defense unless it's backup.

All electrician should have a pocketknife, it's on the tool list for my local.

There are many, many choices. The sky is the limit.

For a work knife, CRKT is a good brand, they are pretty good for the price and you won't mind stripping wire or prying with it if you have to.

My current EDC knife is either a Spyderco Police or a Benchmade 810.

Could you enlighten as to "natives" . Do you mean Native American Indians, or possibly Native Canadian Indians, or are there some other form of natives that inhabit the locale.

Natives/Indians/ aboriginals/ whatever the politically correct term for them this year is. After a couple years they are always battling to be referred to by a less offensive name.

I'm glad I'm not a native up there. Crazy electrician going to cut my throat just cause I took me a nap in a hallway under a trash bag. That is exactly the thing I do every time I go visiting Canada. I always take a nap in a hallway under a trashbag. The trip would not be the same without one.


You guys need concealed carry. Guns work better than knives.

Didn't notice your location until after I posted. I'd go for a big "Rambo" style knife strapped to my side...within quick and easy reach.

When I was in the field, I usually had a 22 oz. Estwing hanging off my pouch that would ruin someone's day if need be. Come to think of it, I could make someone bleed with damn near anything in my pouch, if the situation arose.:thumbup:

I suspect if I was born a Native American Indian, I would probably not care much for the generalizations about my race bandied about on websites and so forth and so on. But it seems to me that they are the one race where it is still acceptable to pee on them at every turn . It is sad, regardless of living conditions most of them are in.

Never said I wanted to 'gut' anyone. Hope I never have a confrontation like that in any of these places. But the fact is I would feel better about having a knife. Some places we work the tweakers are white. Some are black, yellow, blue, orange I don't give a ****. I'm not racial profiling people here. I simply gave an example of a single time where you could say yeah you know what, if I had a weapon of some kind I would feel a little safer. Don't be stupid.
