You should be able to do a VD calc to see. If you can find out the current for a 16' length and the transformer voltage....you already know the distance....you should be able to figure out if #16 will handle it.

#16 AWG stranded? 15 amp breaker needs minimum #14 AWG wire -- not sure how you get around that.

He is talking about low-voltage lighting...not line voltage.
