The building department in a town I work in often wants a line diagram for simple residential service upgrades.

Does anyone have a program that they use for line diagrams?

I use a pencil and paper for a one line. One city told me it was better then They get from some engineers.
I like "Tiny CAD". Free, stable, and easy to use. You may need to create a bit of a library of symbols, (also easy), but once you did that it would be smooth sailing.
Up til now I've been drawing everything out. I make a diagram of the riser with the conductor size. The meter and how I am going into the main panel. The grounding, the 120/240V wiring, everything. I'm not sure exactly what they are looking for. But I figured I would make one neat copy with a computer program and use that from now on.
I have software called volts. It's some kind of design software. I've never got around to using it. It may do this not sure though.
I did a bunch for one client for their sites that the single line was missing or so far wrong it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.. I just used excel.. Took about half an hour drawing all the symbols I needed (fuses, circuit breakers, etc) and then kept that sheet and just added a new blank one for each site and went to town...

Biggest reason I used excel - pretty much everyone has it..
