Anybody here use nail on boxes with MC? Legal?
Metal nail on boxes sure, plastic no.Anybody here use nail on boxes with MC? Legal?
Still a no.AC, no. MC cable ,the outer shield isn't a grounding method, just protection. So yes. But not a happy ending,as they say.
Bonded or grounded?Still a no.
The armor of the MC has to be grounded by the connection to the box.
BondedBonded or grounded?
314.3 Nonmetallic Boxes. Nonmetallic boxes shall be permitted
only with open wiring on insulators, concealed knoband-
tube wiring, cabled wiring methods with entirely nonmetallic
sheaths, flexible cords, and nonmetallic raceways.
Exception No. 1: Where internal bonding means are provided
between all entries, nonmetallic boxes shall be permitted
to be used with metal raceways or metal-armored
cables.
Exception No. 2: Where integral bonding means with a
provision for attaching an equipment bonding jumper inside
the box are provided between all threaded entries in
nonmetallic boxes listed for the purpose, nonmetallic boxes
shall be permitted to be used with metal raceways or metalarmored
cables.
It seems as though this means a metallic strap or something inside of the box.??Bonded
MC cable sheath is a chitty ground so article 250 does not allow it to be used as such, but it is a metal raceway so it still must be bonded together, the grounding conductor will provide a Better path back to ground, with the sheath of MC Cable without having the grounding conductor bonded to it by connection to the box that sheath would be glowing red hot with a low amount of current running through it just a few amps so the circuit breaker will not Tripp. It seems as though this means a metallic strap or something inside of the box.??
Maybe. What i u had a plastic box and used a bond bushing on ur mc connector?
Oh stop, like you haven't done there before :whistling2:Is the OP suggesting MC thru the cable clamp on a plastic nail on?
Go get my coffee , Helper...:laughing:This site should be called apprenticeelectriciantalk.com
:laughing:Oh stop, like you haven't done there before :whistling2:
The sheath is bonded on the panel side of the run
It sounds so strange I didn't even think it would be legal, much less ever need to look it up. & find out you can do it.:laughing:
i haven't. What would be the scenario to use both together? Ran out of cable or ran out of 1900's?
Do you guys use an anti-short and tape? Hack-a-tha's
I need a picture of someones install doing this MC to a plastic box just so I can fully grasp how stupid it would look.
no disrespect, something like that? ok if you feed from behind in wall. I will never be able to wrap my head around plastic stuff. doubt it would pass around here. the weather extremes would probably destroy it here.Arlington makes a recessed Weatherproof In use box that is plastic.
I ran MC to it.
