Does anyone know if they make a 4 inch round old work with the same ears that come on the old work switch boxes

Yup you can get them at home depot.

That doesn't work so good in drywall Harry. They do make clip in metal boxes with ears though, but I am not spending my time looking up what the op can find on the web in a few minutes of his own.

Believe it or not I looked and didn't see what I was looking for [email protected] that's close but I need the clips on it to hold the box to the ceiling . Normally I would use mad bars but the owner wants these (long story ).

Fixture boxes with clip ears are not UL listed for ceilings. (just in case you cared....)

You can also take the ear clip out of a Union bakelite box and use them in a steel octagon box. Or..... you could spend the big bucks and buy a fan brace kit and use that for a fixture box instead.

What are you hanging from the ceiling? If by chance its smoke detectors you can use them.

Those boxes are completely worthless.
If it's a smoke detector, a gem box is fine
If it's a fixture, a crank out box is relatively cheap and easy to install and code compliant for fixture support.
